Breaking monotonous from the Quotations!
Jan 2014, around 06:00pm.
Until now I was taking some rest after hectic 9 hrs of office work at my room in Chennai and suddenly my Cellphone rang up! This call was unexpected for me from an old man with whom I was lost touch for roughly 2-3 months.
Old man said - "Where are you Mr....? I have not seen you past few months could you please come and meet me ASAP!"
Till last time when we met he was fine at his 70's. His unusual voice triggered me to ready mode to decide the meeting point without wasting time in asking him what's the matter!
We met after an hour and he narrated the story what happened during past few days! "I was hospitalized for few days and yesterday only I got discharged, said the old man". After seeing his condition it took me no time to realized that priority should be to feed him some food and then carry on the conversation along with.
Once we finished dinner I took him to the nearest Rajasthani mall (Departmental store) and purchased Rashan (mainly raw food, energy drinks, baked food and ready to made stuffs etc.) enough for 20 days. After spending some time with him I managed one public auto which could drop him near to his home, there also I did some monetary assistance even to survive for the remaining 10 days (20 + 10) to get well in a month time so that he could get his job back and things get back on track.
The last update I heard from his side was "Thank you so much Mr... It was timely help without which I could even die starved, then he said that his hospital expenses bore by owner of his ex-employer and during the whole course my lone son never came to even look at me"
This old man was in a diversified carrier path, he is a very good sketcher (even served as cartoonist in one of the leading news paper) astrologer and finally end up working as a guard in MNCs and recreation and lives alone at home, provided by govt of TN.
Facts -
In India Bangalore and Nagpur tops in old age abuses includes verbal abuse (41 per cent), disrespect (33 per cent), and neglect (29 per cent) emerging as the three most frequent types of abuse reported by the elderly.
India has around 100 million elderly population at present and the number is expected to increase by three fold, constituting 20 per cent of the total population, by 2050.
Wake up India!
In order to address the problems of the older persons, the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (MoSJE) has launched various schemes but is it justified for old people to be abusive from their descendants at their critical phases like mentioned above?
